Oklahoma football: What would an SEC-Big 12 football challenge look like?
LSU vs. Texas
This one is already taking place this year – and we think it’s perfect just the way it is.
The Longhorns and Tigers last met in the 2002 Cotton Bowl when Nick Saban was still in the process of rebuilding the program. There’s tradition, pagentry and statewide bragging rights on the line when these two programs take each other on.
These two programs have plenty in common. Both were borderline dominant in the 2000s, but haven’t been able to find that footing again in the last 10 years to different degrees. Now both have new head coaches and are looking to take the next step back toward that elite club.
The winner of this game will no doubt get some CFP hype going into the the rest of the season. A win will be a major feather in their cap should they face a close playoff decision.
Baylor vs. Kentucky
Two programs that haven’t had a ton of success traditionally, but certainly look to be headed in the right direction. What Matt Rhule has done in Waco is nothing short of extrodinary considering the dismal condition Art Briles left the program in, while Mark Stoops‘ team is showing some of the same trademark toughness that made his brother Bob’s Oklahoma squads so successful.
Both teams feature strong offensive teams with plenty of dangerous weapons at their disposal. Right now Kentucky has been a bit better on defense than the Bears, but this could be the kind of shootout game where the team with the ball last comes out on top.
