Oklahoma golf: Sooners tied for 4th after 36 holes of NCAA Men’s Championship

The defending national champion Oklahoma golf team is tied for 4th place after 36 holes in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship.
After two rounds, the No. 3-seeded Sooners sit at two-over-par 578 over the par-72, 7-640-yard Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma, home track of Oklahoma State. That puts them tied for fourth place with Duke.
Two other Big 12 teams are in first and second place after the first two rounds. Texas Tech leads the field at five-under 571, and Oklahoma State is one shot back of that, at 572, heading to the third round.
Texas is two shots back of Oklahoma in 9th place after two rounds, at four-over-par 580.

The Sooners were three-under after 18 holes, but fell back a bit in the second round, finishing at five-over-par 295.
Redshirt sophomore Quad Cummins leads the Sooners after 36 holes with a score of three-under 141. That puts him in 13th place on the individual leaderboard. Junior Blaine Hale is at two-under 142, in 19th place, and junior Brad Dalke sits in 28th place, at even-par 144.
A year ago, in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Oklahoma was nine-under par after two rounds and 17 under after 54 holes. The Sooners blew up in the fourth round, shooting 16 over par to end 72 holes at one-under and in second place in the team standings.
From there, OU went on to defeat Baylor, Illinois and defending champion Oregon in match play to win the Sooners second national championship in golf.
The Sooners will be back on the course early on Sunday for round three. The top 15 teams will move on to play 18 holes of stroke play on Monday. From there, the field will be trimmed to the top eight teams, who will compete in a match-play format to determine the 2018 national champion.
