Oklahoma golf: Sooner men win their second team title of season
By Chip Rouse
The reigning national champion men’s Oklahoma golf team won its second team title of the 2017-18 season, capturing the Lone Star Invitational on Tuesday.
The Sooners posted a three-day, 54-hole score of 15-under-par 849 to win by 17 strokes over Arkansas State and 13 other schools competing at the par-72 Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. Oklahoma won the same tournament a year ago on its way to the NCAA men’s golf championship.
Junior Brad Dalke shot a final-round score of five-under-par 67. His birdie on the 18th hole on Tuesday earned him the individual tournament title, his second medalist honor of the season. He also earned top honors at the Nike Collegiate Golf Invitational in October. OU also was the team champion in that tournament.
Senior Grant Hirschman shot a two-under 70 on Tuesday and finished with a 54-hole score of six-under 210, good enough for third place on the individual leader board.

Redshirt sophomore Quad Cummins shot a three-day total of two-under-par 214, which earned him a sixth-place finish.
The first-place finish in San Antonio was the 17th team title under Sooner head coach Ryan Hybl. The team from University of Texas-El Paso finished third behind OU and Arkansas State with a 54-hole score of 871 (+7), Kansas was fourth with a three-round total of 872 (+8), and New Mexico State was five more shots back, at 877
The Lone Star Invitational was Oklahoma’s third event of the spring season. The Sooners finished second at the Puerto Rico Classic in late February. They placed sixth in the 15-team field at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Tournament in Las Vegas two weeks ago.
Not to be outdone, the OU women’s team also is experiencing success this spring, with two tournament victories. The latest win came over the weekend in the Clover Cup in Mesa, Arizona. Junior Julienne Soo sank a chip shot from 25 yards away for an eagle on the 18th hole in the final round. That shot gave Oklahoma a two-shot victory over second-place Arizona State.
The eagle on the final hole in the 54-hole tournament also vaulted Soo to the top of the leader board and back-to-back medalist honors at this tournament. She finished the final round with a four-under-par 68 to lead the Sooners to the victory.
Next up for the OU women golfers is the Clemson Invitational this weekend in Sunset, South Carolina.
The next spring tournament for the Sooner men is The Goodwin, a 54-hole tournament in San Francisco, hosted by Stanford.
