Five members of the women’s OU basketball squad have been recognized on the All-Big 12 Team.

Senior center Vionise Pierre-Louis was named to the All-Big 12 First Team, and senior guard Gabbi Ortiz was a second-team selection.

Freshman Shaina Pellington was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. In addition, two other Sooners, guard Maddie Manning and freshman guard Ana Llanusa were named All-Big 12 honorable mentions.

The Lady Sooners finished fourth in the Big 12 regular-season standings with a 16-13 record overall and 11-7 in conference games. OU is the No. 4 seed in the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship in Oklahoma City and will play TCU, the No. 5 seed on Saturday. The two teams split their two games in the regular season, with the Sooners prevailing in Norman and TCU winning in Ft. Worth.

Pierre-Louis is the first Oklahoma player to receive All-Conference First-Team honors in three seasons. She is averaging a career-best 16.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game in 2017-18. She led the Big 12 in blocked shots this season.

Ortiz averages 12.4 this season and shoots nearly 39 percent from three-point range. Her 80 three-pointers is the seventh most in a single season at Oklahoma. When she gets to the free-throw line, she is almost automatic, making 94 percent of her free-throw attempts.

Pellington, from Ontario, Canada, led the Big 12 in scoring among freshman in the regular season. She has had six 20-point performances so far this season and ranks second nationally in field goal percentage (.495). She is the seventh player from Oklahoma to win Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors under head coach Sherri  Coale.  That is the most from any team in the Big 12.
