Chucky Barnett (1980-83), Fourth Team Guard

Chucky Barnett was what is considered in basketball terminology a swingman. At 6-4, he played both small forward and shooting guard in his three varsity seasons at Oklahoma.

Barnett is 13th on the career scoring list at OU with 1,462 points over three seasons. He led the Sooners in scoring in his sophomore and junior seasons, averaging 18.4 and 18.9 points per game, respectively.

His senior season, however, Oklahoma had a new guy on board named Wayman Tisdale, who lit up the nets for 24 points a game. Barnett was the third leading scorer on the 1982-83 Sooner basketball team that compiled a 24-9 overall record and finished second in the Big Eight. Barnett’s scoring average dipped to 11.6 in his final season, in 1982-83, and he also had 4.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game that year.

The Houston Rockets drafted Barnett in the fifth round of the 1983 NBA Draft, but that was the extent of his NBA career.
