Top Five Oklahoma Sooner Running Backs of the BCS Era
By Joe Buettner
2. DeMarco Murray (2007-2010)
Stats: 3,685 rushing yards, 50 rushing touchdowns, 1,517 receiving yards, 13 receiving touchdowns, two kick returns for touchdowns
Accomplishments: 2011 Fiesta Bowl Champion, 2007, 2008, and 2010 Big 12 Champion
He didn’t get his chance to compete in the 2009 National Championship Game against Florida, however, DeMarco Murray was one of the most gifted athletes Oklahoma has ever seen.
Riddled by injuries, there’s no telling what Murray could have done if he would have been able to avoid health issues. Regardless, Murray was a stud the second he stepped on to campus.
Murray’s freshman year was filled with jaw-dropping kick returns and long touchdown runs. The versatile back was able to help in the passing game as well, though.
Murray saw Oklahoma go through a rough 2009, but he stuck around for a 2010 season that ended Oklahoma’s BCS bowl losing streak when the Sooners defeated the Connecticut Huskies.
His highlight reel runs for days, and Oklahoma was blessed to have such a great running back like DeMarco grace the crimson and cream and continue to carry his legacy in to the professional ranks.
