Oklahoma Sooners ready to move past Sugar Bowl victory

"Oklahoma got a lot of attention with its upset victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. As good as it was for the program, the Sooners are looking forward. The Big 12 favorites begin practice Aug. 5 in preparation for the Aug. 30 opener against Louisiana Tech. “They’ve been getting stroked for a long time about Alabama,” co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell said Thursday. “That’s ancient history as far as the football world is concerned. It’s time to turn the page and move on and see what this 2014 team can do.” Amarillo.com"

Why is Bob Stoops gigging the Aggies and his old buddy, Kevin Sumlin?

"Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin spent exactly zero time, best I can tell, discussing Oklahoma’s nonconference schedule – or schedule in general – during last week’s SEC media days in Hoover, Ala. Oddly enough, OU’s Bob Stoops did quite the opposite this week, with the Big 12 media days ongoing in Dallas and with appearances on ESPN. According to a Twitter post from ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, “Bob Stoops mentions Texas A&M’s non-conference schedule: ‘Lamar, Rice, SMU, La-Monroe. Those are all a bunch of toughies.’” mySA.com"

Sooners Gaining Momentum After Two Recent Commits

"The Oklahoma Sooners have started to build some momentum on the recruiting trail after the recent commitment of DE Kenneth Mann. Mann was the second defensive lineman to commit to the Sooners this past week after DT Tyrell Jacobs committed on Monday. The two linemen became the eighth and ninth commitments in Oklahoma’s 2015 recruiting class. The Sooners’ slow start to the class was somewhat concerning but things should pick up speed as the season gets closer. With the Sooners a popular pick to not only win the Big 12 but also to play in the inaugural College Football Playoff, they have too much going for them to not bring in a quality class of recruits this year. Joe Mixon about to prove whether he is OU’s ‘next big thing’

"“The next big thing in Norman!” This, according to Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight, is Sooners freshman Joe Mixon. Knight tweeted as much Thursday in wishing his teammate a happy 18th birthday. This, according to OU fans, is most definitely Mixon. They have felt that way since the five-star running back from Oakley, Calif., committed to the Sooners the day after their Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama last January. Tulsa World"

Oklahama Fan Is Quick To Capitalize On Spelling Goof In Texas Media Guide

"As we mentioned last year when the name of the National Spelling Bee champion was misspelled in a news headline, we’d rather sympathize than snicker in these situations. But then we’re not an Oklahoma Sooners fan who noticed a rather egregious spelling mistake on every page of the Texas Longhorns football media guide. The goof is that the media guide promotes the website TexsaSports.com rather than TexasSports.com. The Post Game"

Clippers’ Blake Griffin Pulls Out of USA Basketball National Team

"Los Angeles Clippers’ power forward Blake Griffin withdraws from the USA Basketball National Team Thursday citing to focus on upcoming National Basketball Association (NBA) season. Griffin is the leading scorer of the Clippers with an average of 23.5 points during the 2014 NBA playoffs and is one of 19 NBA players chosen to try out for the USA team that will participate in the upcoming 17th edition of the FIBA World Cup of Basketball in Spain. Griffin, 25, said that he wants to focus all his energy on improving himself and “preparing for the upcoming season with the Clippers.” China Topix"
