Catching up with former Oklahoma running back Kejuan Jones

This week we had the privilege to chat with former Oklahoma Sooners running back Kejuan Jones. Jones was an integral part to Oklahoma’s running back rotation in the early 2000’s, playing alongside Quentin Griffin and Adrian Peterson.

More from OU Football

In his four-year career, Jones rushed rushed for 2,331 yards and found the endzone 36 times on the ground. He was a part of two Sooner Big 12 Championship teams and Oklahoma’s Rose Bowl win over the Washington State Cougars.

We wanted to see what Kejuan was thinking two months before the season, and he was kind enough to give us some great answers. Here is our conversation:

Joe Buettner: Hey Kejuan! So, how are you and what are you up to nowadays?

Kejuan Jones: I am blessed, doing great…happily, happily married to my beautiful wife Jaymee Jones. We have three kids, Kaydin, Jaedyn & Janiya Jones, who all play ball so I’m pretty busy with that as well. I work for D&E, a sheet rock company out of Tulsa. The rest of my time I also do strength/conditioning coaching for my wife who’s a professional MMA fighter.

JB: That’s awesome! Life sounds good, Kejuan. So, I have to ask. OU came out with new alternate uniforms and helmets for its football team, how do you like the new look for the program?

KJ: I really don’t like the new look, however, I do understand uniforms are evolving with new trends, but I’m old school; I like the uniforms I played in.

JB: No arguing that. I’m a traditionalist myself. But do you feel new uniforms were the way to go or does a team like Oklahoma need to impress recruits more than they already do?

KJ: It doesn’t hurt, but I would hope that these young kids are basing such an important decision on something other than the jerseys.

JB: Very true. So, I’m sure you watched the Sugar Bowl, what’s your excitement level for Oklahoma football this upcoming season and where could you see this team finishing?

KJ: I’m excited every year about the Sooners, that’s my home, at Oklahoma you’re expected to be at the top every year. I think they have everything they need for a great year. I see us in the top four playoff.

JB: It should be a good season for the boys. Though, you made a big impact with the Sooners in the early 2000’s, do you have a favorite memory from your college playing career?

KJ: I have a lot of great memories, but one that really sticks out to me happened my redshirt freshman year. In 2002, I scored the go-ahead touchdown against Texas—my teammates all plowed me into the referee knocking him to the ground as I’m throwing horns down in the end zone! And always beating Oklahoma State of course!

JB: Thanks Kejuan, we appreciate you letting us pick your brain for a second. Boomer Sooner!

KJ: Thank you for the interview. Boomer Sooner! #20 #kjones
