Everything about Zya Vann was all Oklahoma. Until now.
Vann, an Oklahoman, entered the Transfer Portal this offseason after two years with the Oklahoma Sooners, and on Friday, On3's Talia Goodman reported that Vann is crossing the Red River and transferring to rival Texas with two years of eligibility left.
Vann seemed to be a lifelong Sooner with OU DNA and a cornerstone of head coach Jennie Baranczyk's rising program, so her move to transfer was already a shock, but leaving for the Sooners' biggest rival seemed unfathomable.
"On my first official visit, I put on a Sooners' jersey and immediately knew I was staying home," Vann wrote in her transfer announcement.
Sooners lose OU legacy Zya Vann to Red River rival
The Vann Family has deep roots at OU, with Zya being the third member of her family to wear crimson and cream. Her dad, Bryatt, played for the Sooners under Billy Tubbs in the early '90s to make his daughters Sooner bred. Skylar then played her entire five-year career at OU before Zya joined her sister on the roster for a season last year. Both came from nearby Bethany High School as top in-state recruits.
As a freshman while playing alongside her sister, Vann appeared in all 35 games, which was tied for the fifth most by a freshman in OU history. She then cracked the starting lineup as a sophomore this past season and started every game for a team that made a second straight trip to the Sweet 16.

Vann averaged 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists while leading OU's starting lineup with a 33% three-point percentage in 2025-26. She would have been poised for an even bigger role next season as a returning veteran alongside star point guard Aaliyah Chavez. Instead, she hit the portal and was a top target before ultimately joining a rival.
Little is unexpected nowadays in college sports, but Vann, who was raised a Sooner in Oklahoma, exchanging her crimson and cream for burnt orange definitely was.
