At a time teams need to be at full strength the most, the Oklahoma men's basketball will not.
According to the SEC availability report, OU senior forward Sam Godwin was ruled out for the Sooners' game against Georgia in the first round of the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night.
Godwin also missed the Sooners' regular-season finale against Texas on Saturday night. He went down with a right knee injury early during OU's upset over then-No. 15 Missouri last week after exploding for 12 points out of the gate and exiting as the Sooners' leading scorer at the time.
He eventually returned to the bench wearing street clothes with ice and a brace on his extended right knee.
OU coach Porter Moser was asked this week about Godwin's status but did not share many details or when he expects Godwin to return.
"He's doing good," Moser said on Monday. "Everyday he seems to progress. We'll see how it goes today."
Godwin, from Ada, Oklahoma, had started every game this season before missing Saturday's game against Texas. He's the biggest body in OU's usual starting lineup at 6-foot-10, and averages 6.5 points and 5.2 rebounds this season.
Even on the bench, though, Godwin was still a big presence during the Sooners' win over Texas.
"I noticed it when I rewatched the game a couple of times how much Sam was on the bench and he was in Luke's (Northweather) ear -- he kept on talking to Luke," Moser said. "That was great leadership of him, that energy and pouring into the other guys."
Fellow super senior Mohamed Wague started against Texas with Godwin sidelined. The 6-foot-10 transfer from Alabama had three points and two rebounds in 13 minutes in his first start as a Sooner.
Sophomore Luke Northweather, listed at 6-foot-11, got the most playing time in the five spot with 22 minutes. He scored 10 points and pulled in five rebounds.
Senior forward Glenn Taylor Jr. also scored 10 points off the bench but is listed as probable against Georgia.
