The Oklahoma Sooners will be without their biggest asset for their most important game of the regular season.
According to the SEC availability report, senior forward Sam Godwin will be out for OU's regular-season finale against Texas on Saturday in Austin.
Godwin injured his right knee early in the Sooners' last game against Missouri on Wednesday night, which was Godwin's Senior Night. He eventually returned to the bench in street clothes with ice and a brace on the knee. After the game, OU coach Porter Moser didn't have much of an update but said Godwin would get an MRI the next day.
Before getting injured, Godwin had jumped out of the chute with 12 quick points and was OU's leading scorer when he went out. The Sooners ended up upsetting No. 15 Missouri 96-84 and Godwin was a major part of the win even in just the 11 minutes he played before getting hurt.
Godwin is a 6-foot-10 senior from Ada, Oklahoma, who started his college career at Wofford before transferring after his sophomore season. He's averaged 6.5 points and 5.2 rebounds a game this season and the tallest player in the Sooners' usual starting lineup.
The Sooners have struggled rebounding all season, especially in SEC play so Godwin's abscense is a huge blow for OU against Texas.
In replace of Godwin, Mohamed Wague is expected to get a lot more playing time. Wague is also a 6-foot-10 who just transferred from Alabama this past offseason. He's averaged 10.1 minutes a game this season and scored a season-high 12 points Wednesday night after stepping in for Godwin.
There's a lot on the line for both teams in the Red River Rivalry. The loser will finally have its NCAA Tournament bubble popped, while the winner will still have hope to go dancing.
