The good news was that the Oklahoma Sooners had more wins over a rival than anyone else, but the bad news was that they also have the most losses to a different rival.
I already wrote about which FBS program the Sooners have beaten the most, which was Oklahoma State with 92 wins against the Cowboys. OU owned the state and the Bedlam rivalry, but another rivalry doesn't benefit the Sooners as frequently.
The Texas Longhorns have beaten OU more than any other FBS program in college football. The Longhorns have won the Red River Rivalry 64 times and lead the all-time series 64-51-5. That's tough news to take for Sooner Nation.
However, Texas has had more chances than anyone against the Sooners. OU and Texas have clashed 120 times, more than the Sooners have played any other program.
The next most was against Oklahoma State with 118 Bedlam meetings. That two-game margin will only increase with the Red River Rivalry still happening every season and Bedlam now dead after the Sooners left the Cowboys behind in the Big 12 for the SEC.
But unlike Bedlam, there's never really been a long period in the Red River Rivalry where one program controlled things. Despite those 64 losses and being behind in the all-time series, the Sooners have still always been an equal when the rivals met.
The longest winning streak ever in the Red River Rivalry was eight games in a row for the Longhorns two different times in 1940-47 and 1958-65. The Sooners put together a six-game winning streak against Texas in 1952-57.
OU is also responsible for the most recent streak, winning four in a row in 2018-21. Before that, the Sooners won five straight in 2000-04.
Those streaks don't really matter, though, unless it ultimately leads to getting even and actually owning the Red River instead of leasing it season-by-season. The Sooners need 13 wins to match Texas' win total in the rivalry, which is honestly realistic longterm.
However, even if the Sooners do eventually catch Texas, Sooner Nation will still have the discomfort knowing that no one else has beaten OU more. The next team to beat the Sooners the most is Nebraska, which is still a long ways from Texas with 38. The Cornhuskers and Sooners also rarely meet now.
For now, and maybe forever, Sooner Nation will have to deal with the fact that Texas has beaten OU more than anyone else, just like Cowboy fans have to in Stillwater.
