What a sweet time to root for the Oklahoma women's basketball team.

The 3-seed Sooners thumped the 6-seed Iowa Hawkeyes 96-62 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday in the last basketball game of the season at Lloyd Noble Center. The win sent OU to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013.

Later that day, the 2-seed UConn Huskies dominated the 7-seed South Dakota State Jackrabbits 91-57 to set up a Sweet 16 matchup with the Sooners on Saturday in Spokane, Washington.

The Huskies have made every Sweet 16 since 1994 as a women's basketball dynasty. Last season, they made it to the Final Four for the 23rd time. If UConn beats OU on Saturday, it would be back-to-back trips to the Elite Eight. The Sooners haven't made it past the Sweet 16 since 2010.

This season, UConn is 33-3 behind leading scorer Paige Bueckers. She's one of the best players in the country while averaging 19.2 points a game. The Sooners are 27-7 and led by junior center Raegan Beers, who averages 17.5 points a game.

The winner of OU and UConn would get the winner of 1-seed USC and 5-seed Kansas State for a trip to the Final Four in Tampa, Florida.
