Oklahoma receivers coach Emmett Jones is trying to assure his position group doesn't have depth issues again next season.

California transfer Josiah Martin announced via X and Instagram on Tuesday that he has committed to the Sooners out of the transfer portal still with three years of eligibility left after just one college season.

Martin is the Sooners' 11th addition from the transfer portal this cycle and fourth receiver, joining Javonnie from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Keontez Lewis from Southern Illinois and Isaiah Satenga from Arkansas. OU has also added a pair of tight ends as pass catchers.

The Sooners needed more help at receiver, though, after a season in which the position group was plagued by injuries and lost six receivers to the transfer portal.

Of the additions so far, Martin could be a Sooner the longest still early in his college football career. He played just seven games for California this season as a freshman, including the bowl game. In those few appearances, Martin had 12 receptions and 112 receiving yards.

Martin's only career TD so far was a 29-yard run against No. 24 UNLV in the LA Bowl in his final appearance as a Golden Bear. That game was Dec.18 and Martin entered the transfer portal two days later.

Although little sample size at the college level, Martin was a highly touted three-star recruit in the 2024 class out of Denton Guyer High School in Texas with offers from the likes of Alabama, Tennessee, Oregon and more. He was former OU quarterback Jackson Arnold's top receiver during Martin's junior year and Arnold's senior campaign. Despite the connection, though, Martin didn't have an offer from OU out of high school.

Martin fits the mold of most of the Sooners' other young talent a receiver. He's a bit undersized, listed at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, but he's extremely quick and explosive.

There probably won't be an immediate impact from Martin in 2025, and he might even blend right in with the similar young talent OU already has at receiver, but he will certainly provide depth at the position and could potentially emerge as a big playmaker later on in his career.
