There's a former Oklahoma quarterback leading an offense in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, but it wasn't Jalen Hurts with the throw of the game so far between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.
Down 14-3 late in the first quarter, the Commanders faced 4th-and-6 from their own 31-yard line. It briefly raised some eyebrows when the Commanders sat in punt formation for longer than usual.
Then when the ball was snapped to punter Tress Way, instead of punting, he dropped back to pass. Way then hit tight end Ben Sinnott for a 31-yard pass to convert the fourth down and keep the Commanders' drive going.
The possession ultimately ended with a field goal that cut the Eagles' lead to 14-6 with 14:42 left in the half.
Fake punt? What a pass by Tress Way!

Way punted for the Sooners in 2008-12 before what has been a 12-season NFL career so far. He's been with the Commanders since 2014.
On the other sideline is Hurts playing quarterback for the Eagles. He's protected by fellow former Sooner Lane Johnson on the offensive line and throwing the ball to tight end Grant Calcaterra, who played at OU before retiring from football then finishing his college career at SMU.
The Commanders and Eagles are meeting in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday with the winner going to the Super Bowl.
