Trae Young certainly knows ball, and he has the highest of expectations for Oklahoma women's basketball's newest commit.
Aaliyah Chavez, the No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, on Tuesday live on SportsCenter announced her commitment to OU over the likes of Texas, South Carolina, UCLA and LSU.
Chavez, a point guard, is a consensus five-star recruit. Her 247Sports Composite score is a perfect 1.0000, with every recruiting service ranking her No. 1. She's a McDonald's All American, Naismith Prep Player of the Year and two-time Gatorade Player of the Year.
According to MaxPreps, Chavez averaged 34.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals a game this season as a senior. In her career, Chavez averaged 32.1 points.
Chavez finished her preps career leading Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, to a Texas Class 5A Division II state championship. Young, too, was originally from Lubbock, Texas, before later ending up at Norman North High School and ultimately OU.
Young was also highly touted as a five-star recruit and McDonald's All-American. He spent just one season with the Sooners, during which he led the country in points, points per game, assists, assists per game and assist percentage. He was named winner of the Wayman Tisdale Award for National Freshman of the Year.
So Young can relate to Chavez and knows talent, especially now as a four-time NBA All-Star. He celebrated Tuesday with the rest of Sooner Nation after Chavez announced her commitment.

“Lets get it” @AALIYAH2CHAVEZ @OU_WBBall
Young was later asked about Chavez's commitment to OU and had extremely high praise for the newest Sooner, who he knew beforehand through basketball camps.
"Man, Aaliyah, Aaliyah's the next Paige Bueckers, the next JuJu Watkins, the next Caitlin Clark of college basketball," Young said. "It's gonna be exciting that she's in Norman, Oklahoma, now. We get to go and support her. I'm gonna be supporting her anytime I can."
UConn's Paige Bueckers is the projected No. 1 pick in the next WNBA Draft. USC's JuJu Watkins is considered by most the best women's college basketball player right now. Then there's obviously Caitlin Clark, who took women's basketball to a new level while at Iowa before becoming a top draft pick.
That next household name could call Oklahoma home.
The #1 recruit in the country, Aaliyah Chavez is headed to Oklahoma.
