All the recruiting talk this summer has been about Oklahoma Sooners football, but now things are heating up for Porter Moser and the men's basketball program.
On3's Joe Tipton reported that consensus four-star small forward Gage Mayfield recently narrowed down his list of school options to five: OU, Tennessee, Michigan, Vanderbilt and Florida State. This came within a week after it was reported top in-state prospect Jalen Montonati scheduled an official visit to OU.
Gage Mayfield announces final school options
Mayfield's other offers included Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Murray State, New Mexico State and more. As the top prospect in the state of Alabama from Hale County High School, it's a surprise he's already excluded both major in-state programs. Mayfield is the highest-rated recruit from Alabama since 2021, so this might be one the Crimson Tide and Tigers regret to let leave home.
OU just offered Mayfield less than a week before being included in his top 5. In fact, all of his top options didn't offer until this summer.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Mayfield is the No. 28 small forward in the 2026 class and No. 68 overall prospect. ESPN ranks Mayfield, listed at 6-foot-8, as high as the No. 56 overall player in the country.
Mayfield has an official visit to Norman scheduled for Sept. 13. He'll be in Michigan the week after and at Vanderbilt the week before. He already took his visit to Tennessee.
Montonati's official visit to OU is scheduled for Sept. 6, when the Sooners host Michigan for a primetime football game.
