It's about to be a long few days for some football players trying to pursue their NFL dreams.
NFL teams must trim down from 90 players and set their 53-man rosters for the 2025 season by 3 p.m. CT Tuesday, and there are a handful of former Oklahoma Sooners on the chopping block. Some former OU players were obvious choices as locks or to get cut even before training camp started, but a few rookies and veterans had the chance to battle for a spot, even if it seemed like a long shot.
Ethan Downs, DL, Jacksonville Jaguars
Ethan Downs was already a long shot as an undersized and undrafted rookie, so there's no surprise if Downs doesn't make the 53-man roster yet.
Trace Ford, LB, New York Giants
Trace Ford made an impact during the preseason with a huge play, but it still doesn't look to be enough for the undrafted rookie to make the roster over a handful of veterans. He'll end up on the practice squad for now, but Ford should eventually make a 53-man roster in his career.

Tony Jefferson, S, Los Angeles Chargers
Although it seems Tony Jefferson did enough to make the roster for his 11th NFL season, it's still not a guarantee. What might save Jefferson's status in Los Angeles is that the Chargers can't stash him on their practice squad just in case, because if the Chargers waive Jefferson, another franchise would scoop him up.
Ogbo Okoronkwo, DE, Philadelphia Eagles
This would be Ogbo Okoronkwo's second time to get cut just this summer. After getting cut by the Cleveland Browns in June, Okoronkwo signed with the defending Super Bowl champions, but now it seems Okoronkwo won't get his chance in Philadelphia either.
Drake Stoops, WR, Los Angeles Rams
Drake Stoops was battling with former Bedlam rival Brennan Presley for the Rams' last WR spot on their 53-man roster. However, despite both being impressive during the preseason, it doesn't look like either will start the season on the active roster.
Drake Stoops gets us on the board!! 💪
