This isn't the same Oklahoma softball team that has won four consecutive national championships and six of the last eight. No matter, though, even with 14 newcomers to the 2025 roster and a lineup powered by underclassmen, the Sooners are right back where they have become a regular fixture for nearly a decade: in the Women's College World Series, which also happens to take place up the road in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma followed up a 3-0 win in the series opener on Friday with a resounding 13-2 blowout of 15-seed Alabama on Saturday to capture the Sooners' ninth consecutive Super Regional championship and 13th since the Super Regional format was introduced in 2005.
The Sooners are making their ninth consecutive trip to the WCWS and 18th since 2000, and have won all eight of their national championships during that span, including the last four in a row.
Before a sellout home crowd of over 4,500 at Love's Field on Saturday OU took a 1-0 lead into the third inning on Saturday when it exploded for eight runs on eight hits, ignited by a two-run blast from freshman shortstop Gabbie Garcia, her first of two to leave the yard for the game.
With the Sooners holding a 9-1 advantage after three innings, the game and the Super Regional championship were effectively in-hand. Oklahoma launched three more long balls in the top of the fifth inning to complete the Sooners' 23rd run-rule victory of the season.
Sophomore left-hander Kiersten Deal worked the first four innings for the Sooners in Saturday's close-out victory, allowing two runs on just three hits to earn her 10th win of the season. Freshman Audrey Lowry came on to finish it off in the fifth.
No. 2 Oklahoma (50-7) heads to the 2025 Women's College World Series as the highest-seeded team. The Sooners' first-round opponent will be No. 7 Tennessee at 1:30 p.m. CT Thursday. OU lost two of three games at home to Tennessee during the regular season.
