It didn't take long for things to get chippy between the Oklahoma Sooners and LSU Tigers on Thursday night.
LSU ultimately outlasted OU in the 107-100 game that made SEC women's basketball history. But things were intense long before a close final two minutes.
Two players were ejected in the first quarter after a shoving match between OU forward Liz Scott and LSU forward Sa'Myah Smith. Smith initiated the interaction after she pushed OU center Raegan Beers to the ground. Scott was then prompted to defend her teammate and retaliated by shoving Smith.
The two players were quickly separated then ejected. Both will also have to miss the next game because of the ejection.
These interactions aren't uncommon or a surprise coming from an LSU team coached by Kim Mulkey, though. The Tigers have become known for this type of behavior under Mulkey.
Mulkey herself is a hot head and that was also on display Thursday night. First, a video of Mulkey's rage went viral. She slapped a clipboard out of the hands of assistant coach Seimone Augustus during a fit.
Then, in the fourth quarter, Mulkey received a technical foul after she was upset about a foul call against LSU guard Flau'Jae Johnson. OU coach Jennie Baranczyk also received a technical foul earlier in the game.
It's unfortunate Mulkey's and her team's actions will overshadow the fact that this game made SEC women's basketball history as the first time each team scored at least 100 points during regulation.
