It took the Oklahoma Sooners and LSU Tigers together to accomplish history on Thursday night.
No. 7 LSU fought off No. 13 OU's comeback attempt and pulled off a 107-100 win in a top-15 SEC matchup in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Despite the loss, the Sooners were still part in making history.
OU and LSU became the first teams in history to ever both score at least 100 points in regulation in an SEC women's basketball game, according to ESPN. That would also make Thursday night's contest the highest scoring SEC women's basketball game in history that didn't need overtime.
Obviously there will be a plethora of outstanding performances when both teams reach the centure mark.
LSU guard Mikaylah Williams led all scorers with 37 points. Two others Tigers surpassed the point mark, with usual leading scorer Flau'Jae Johnson putting up 25 and Aneesah Morrow adding 21 points.
Shayeann Day-Wilson didn't reach double digits with nine points, but she did dish out another nine assists. No one on LSU's bench scored more than five points.
Senior guard Payton Verhulst led the Sooners with 26 points with seven rebounds and four assists. Center Raegan Beers, who leads OU in scoring this season, put up 20 points and pulled in seven rebounds. Sahara Williams also reached double figures with 12 points.
Zya Vann and Lexy Keys came off the bench to contribute 11 and nine points, respectively.
LSU led by as much as 24 points late in the third quarter before the Sooners got within a point twice during the final two minutes. OU caught up thanks to 11 second-half turnovers that resulted in 17 points.
Ultimately, though, the Sooners fell to 16-5 and .500 in SEC play at 4-4. LSU has now rebounded with back-to-back conference wins since suffering its only loss of the season to No. 2 South Carolina.
Next, the Sooners will host No. 12 Kentucky on Sunday at Lloyd Noble Center. Sunday will be the third time in four games OU has faced a top-15 opponent.
