After a week of disagreement, everyone is on the same page again that the Oklahoma Sooners are the best team in college softball.
Entering the final week of the regular season, the Sooners were No. 1 in every major national ranking this week after earning even more respect from sweeping then-No. 11 Georgia in a three-game SEC series over the weekend. Last week, OU and Nebraska shared that No. 1 title depending on the poll.
Oklahoma takes back No. 1 bragging rights from Nebraska
The Sooners briefly slipped after going 2-2 the week before with a midweek loss to Bedlam rival Oklahoma State and taking two of three games from Arkansas in a top-10 series at Love's Field. OU still, though, remained atop the ESPN / USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 and NFCA Coaches Poll, while Nebraska was No. 1 in the other two major national polls.
This week, it's all Sooners after they went 4-0 last week and are on a five-winning streak heading into their regular-season finale at No. 12 Texas A&M this weekend in College Station, Texas. Nebraska, meanwhile, also went 4-0 with a win over Omaha and series sweep of Iowa. Ultimately, the Sooners' top-15 sweep impressed voters a lot more, and should have.

The Sooners have endured a loaded conference schedule after a lackluster nonconference slate. OU's series with Texas A&M will be its fourth series in a row against a top-15 team. The newest ESPN / USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 included 11 of 15 SEC teams, featuring three of the top 5 with No. 1 OU, No. 3 Alabama and No. 5 Texas.
The only place where OU isn't considered the top team is in the RPI. However, the Sooners beat the top two teams in that poll -- No. 1 Arkansas and No. 2 Texas -- in three-game series. The Sooners sit at No. 6 in the RPI while that weak nonconference schedule is still holding them back some.
All that matters to OU head coach Patty Gasso, though, is being No. 1 at the end.
