Mississippi Valley State transfer cornerback Prince Ijioma on Friday announced his commitment to Oklahoma as the Sooners continue to build depth at the position behind returning starters Eli Bowen and Courtland Guillory. Ijioma will have two years of eligibility left.
Ijioma became the second cornerback the Sooners have added so far after losing four to the portal this cycle, which forced OU general manager Jim Nagy to hunt for more secondary depth wherever he can find it.
Mississippi Valley State CB Prince Ijioma commits to Oklahoma out of Transfer Portal
Ijioma spent two seasons contributing for Mississippi Valley State at the FCS level. This season, he tallied 39 tackles and four pass deflections while playing in all 12 games. He also had 20 tackles in 2024 as a freshman.
He got to Mississippi Valley State as an unrated and unranked recruit in the 2024 class out of Little Elm High School in Texas, where he was teammates with OU quarterback John Mateer, who was also underrated before exploding as a sophomore at Washington State in 2024. Mateer then transferred to OU last year, which might have helped Ijioma end up in Oklahoma, as well.
As a transfer prospect, Ijioma was a three-star recruit and No. 198 corner available in the portal, according to 247Sports. OU was his only Power Four offer and most of his other interest came from the FCS level.
The Sooners' first addition at cornerback was Oregon transfer Dakoda Fields, who was a former four-star recruit, but played in only three games in two years with the Ducks. He had plans to enter the portal long before the 2025 season ended.
OU might not be done at the position either. The Sooners just reportedly hosted Peyton Taylor, who's transferring from Division-II Emporia State in Kansas. The portal closes on Friday, so that the means the Sooners can't lose any more talent, but they can still add to their roster from the portal.
