The Red River Rivalry in Austin had the energy of a Women’s College World Series final. No other words can describe how Oklahoma conquered Texas on its home turf in a best-of-three bout between the two most recent national holders despite an extra-inning skirmish in the last game resulting in a loss for the Sooners.
OU winning the series boosted its case for the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament over fellow Longhorns-beater Alabama, but the storyline heading into the weekend was the battle in the circle. Fans questioned how well the offense could hold up to All-American pitcher Teagan Kavan, and the answer turned out to be enough to outscore the Longhorns a combined 13-11 across the three games.

The Sooners managed to put up a fight at the plate, which included six home runs scored between Ella Parker, Isabela Emerling, Abby Dayton, Gabbie Garcia and Kendall Wells. When Kavan appeared in the circle for the Longhorns on Friday and Sunday, four of those runs went past the glove of the Texas ace who reached 500 career strikeouts during Game 1. Only 13 hitters this season have homered off Kavan, a group that now includes Parker, Emerling, Dayton and Garcia.
While OU shut out Texas in Game 1, the bats came in clutch when the Sooners trailed during the next two games. Wells tripled to right field in the fifth inning of Game 2, when she broke the NCAA single-season freshman home run record that includes Jocelyn Alo and Lauren Chamberlain. Garcia forced the game-tying eighth inning in the climatic Sunday finale after smacking a two-RBI dinger over right field.

The 2026 season has been historic for Oklahoma as it leads the NCAA in practically every hitting statistic, so only the very top teams will be able to contend with the Sooners in the postseason. This might not be the last time that they face Texas this season, as a rematch in the SEC tournament or WCWS might happen.
