The Oklahoma Sooners were down in the recruitment for 2027 consensus four-star edge rusher Zane Rowe, but never out.
After decommitting from the Sooners in January 2025, Rowe is closing in on his next decision, and OU is in the mix again, along with Oregon, Washington and North Carolina. According to Rivals' Sam Spiegelman and Hayes Fawcett, Rowe will announce his second commitment on Friday, March 13.
Zane Rowe could soon commit to Oklahoma for a 2nd time
Rowe was initially the Sooners' first 2027 commitment for what has since developed into the best recruiting class in the country with 13 commits. He pledged extremely early in his recruiting process in April 2024, a month after OU's offer, so it was unlikely then that the Sooners could keep Rowe locked in for almost three years with other big-time college football programs also knocking. When Rowe decommitted, he was still OU's only 2027 commit at the time.
After getting on recruiting radars early thanks to breakout sophomore season, Rowe has a long list of offers that includes Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Kentucky, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, USC and more.
Rowe's recruiting stock has actually dipped since debuting in 247Sports' recruiting rankings as the No. 47 overall prospect in the 2027 class and No. 3 defensive lineman. A lot of the early hype had to do with his size when he was already listed at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds as a high school sophomore. He's now listed at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Rowe is now the No. 93 overall player in the 2027 class and No. 13 edge rusher. He's also the No. 11 overall prospect in the state of Texas out of Denton Guyer High School, which has funneled lots of talent to Oklahoma. He was also named an Under Armour All-American.
Despite Rowe's stock dropping and him backing out of his initial commitment, the Sooners apparently really like what they see in him since they've remained persistent in getting Rowe in crimson and cream.
