Oklahoma lost a future defensive player.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported on Monday that edge rusher Zane Rowe has decommitted from Oklahoma after pledging to the Sooners in April.

Rowe is a four-star edge rusher in the 2027 class. He committed to the Sooners early in his recruiting process so a change of heart was likely during the three years OU had to keep Rowe locked in.

Even as just a sophomore at Denton Guyer High School in Texas, Rowe is already listed at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds. He recorded 75 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, nine sacks and recovered a fumble in 13 games this season, according to MaxPreps.

Rowe debuted in 247Sports' 2027 recruiting rankings as the No. 47 overall prospect in the class. He was the No. 3 defensive lineman.

That early reputation helped bring in 31offers already for Rowe, including from Georgia, USC, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Arizona State, Miami, Nebraska, Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas A&M and plenty others.

It's still really in the recruiting process for the 2027 class, with OU just starting to hand out some offers during this past season. Rowe was the Sooners' only 2027 commit so far.

Just Rowe's pledge alone put OU with the No. 4 2027 recruiting class in the country, showing not only Rowe's recruiting status, but also how early in the process every program is in adding 2027 talent.
