As the Oklahoma Sooners introduce new players from the Transfer Portal, one familiar name returned to Norman.

Offensive lineman Kenny Wermy announced on Wednesday that he is returning to the Sooners after transferring to Division-II Central Wermy in 2025 for a season.

"Excited to be back home," Wermy wrote in a post on X.

Wermy, listed at 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, signed with the Sooners in 2023 as a preferred walk-on from nearby Cache High School. He also visited Oklahoma State before choosing to join the winning side of Bedlam. In two years at OU, Wermy never saw the field before transferring to UCO for the 2025 season.

Wermy was a causality of roster cuts last year as Brent Venables and his staff had to trim things down to 85 players after initially having well above 100 players on the team. Local walk-ons like Wermy suffered the most from the roster cuts. Recently, though, the SEC increased the roster limit to 105, opening up more space for players like Wermy to add depth at a dream school close to home.

The Sooners are currently using the Transfer Portal to fill their biggest need of depth along the offensive line. So far, OU has added center Caleb Nitta from Western Kentucky and E'Marion Harris from Arkansas. Harris could even crack the starting lineup at right tackle.

Despite the Sooners needing more depth at offensive line, Wermy still won't likely become a major contributor in 2026, and OU will continue to add more help up front from the Transfer Portal.
