Mississippi State's Super Regional hero that ended the Oklahoma Sooners' 2026 college softball season is now up for grabs, and if OU wants her, it's certain Patty Gasso would utilize the talent unlike the Bulldogs did.

Mississippi State left-handed pitcher Delainey Everett announced over the weekend that she's entering the transfer portal with one year of eligibility left after stealing the spotlight during the NCAA Softball Championship.

OU fans, along with Mississippi State fans, learned what Everett is capable of when she shut down the Sooners' historically powerful lineup in Game 3 of the Norman Super Regional while making her first start of the season in the biggest moment in Bulldogs history.

Everett pitched a complete-game shutout while giving up only three hits against a lineup that averaged 9.53 runs a game throughout the season. It was the first time in 399 games that a pitcher shutout the Sooners, and Everett accomplished the feat while getting Mississippi State to the Women's College World Series for the first time in school history.

To that point, Everett had been used only as a reliever with 10 appearances. For whatever reason, Mississippi State head coach Samantha Ricketts, a former OU player, decided to put the ball in Everett's hand for the biggest game in school history. The gamble obviously paid off, but even Mississippi State fans were scratching their heads why Everett hadn't been used more after missing the first 16 games of the season because of injury.

It still apparently wasn't enough, though, as the Bulldogs started Alyssa Faircloth in their first game of the WCWS against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders run-ruled Mississippi State 8-0 as Faircloth gave up four runs in just 1.1 innings while Everett stayed on the bench.

Everett then made her second start of the season the next day in an elimination game against Texas. She got the loss in the 4-0 deficit, but was still solid in holding the Longhorns to two runs in four innings of work.

In the end, Everett finished her junior campaign and what will be her last season at Mississippi State with a 1.15 ERA in 12 appearances. She posted a 2.78 ERA in 14 outings as a freshman in 2024 and 2.92 ERA in 25 appearances in 2025.

There will likely be better options with less risk available for Gasso as the Sooners need to find an ace this offseason, but it's clear Mississippi State misused Everett and OU pitching coach Jennifer Rocha could develop Everett into the best version of herself.

If the Sooners lose any arms to the portal this offseason, then Everett would be worth a look as someone with SEC experience and proved herself right in front of Gasso.
