It's been a crazy month of June for the Oklahoma baseball program. The Sooners are 4-0 a dozen days into June and find themselves in the Men's College World Series, where they are getting ready to take on SEC foe Alabama in an opening-round game on Saturday.
While head coach Skip Johnson and the Sooners have been laser-focused the past couple of weeks on their improbable journey through the NCAA Baseball Championship on the road to the MCWS, they've also been looking ahead a little in terms of filling roster needs for next season.
Skip Johnson adds Jay Abernathy and Sebastian Pisacreta to Oklahoma's 2027 roster
Oklahoma on Thursday picked up a pair of Power Four transfer portal commitments from Tennessee outfielder Jay Abernathy and Pittsburgh catcher Sebastian Pisacreta.
An outfielder and an infielder for Tennessee as a sophomore this season, Abernathy hit .236 with three home runs, 16 runs batted in and 36 runs scored. He brings speed, which has been a big part of Oklahoma's success in the 2026 season. Abernathy led Tennessee with nine stolen bags this season.
Abernathy's primary infield position was second base, but with OU second baseman Kyle Branch only a sophomore, Abernathy most likely will be slotted in the outfield as a Sooner next season. The former Tennessee Volunteer was believed to be considering West Virginia as a landing spot before committing this week to Oklahoma. It might have helped that Abernathy is from the same hometown, Aceworth, Georgia, as OU center fielder Jason Walk.

Pisacreta will have one season of eligibility remaining after three seasons at Pittsburgh. He hit .271 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI his junior year this season.
The Sooners' two catchers this season - Deiten Lachance and Brendan Brock -- are juniors and could come back for another season in 2027, but the expectation is that both will likely leave for careers in the professional ranks after this season's MCWS run.

Oklahoma's 2026 roster includes just four seniors, two of which are starters in first baseman Dayton Tockey and outfielder Trey Gambill. The usual starting lineup also includes five juniors, all of which are eligible to return next season, but with the MLB Draft looming, that number could be fewer entering next season.
Immediately following the Sooners' Super Regional sweep over No. 15 Kansas, several of the Oklahoma coaches were reported to have hit the recruiting trail while the team prepared to embark for Omaha and the MCWS.
