Sooners fall into the most gruesome Men's College World Series path

OU will need to do a lot of avenging in Omaha.

The Oklahoma Sooners are somewhat just happy to be in the Men's College World Series after an unbelievable upset run through the NCAA Baseball Championship so far, but when in Omaha, might as well keep winning. However, it will take an even more impressive showing and getting a lot of revenge in Omaha as OU's spot happens to be on the toughest side of the MCWS bracket.

The Sooners' half of the eight-team field is basically another SEC Tournament that also includes Alabama, Texas and Georgia. Meanwhile, the other side looks like a play-in tournament with West Virginia, Troy, North Carolina and Ole Miss. The winner from each bracket will meet in the three-game championship series next week to decide a national champion.

Men's College World Series bracket:

Oklahoma must deal with SEC gauntlet again in MCWS

Georgia is the only team in the Sooners' bracket that they didn't face during their SEC slate. The Bulldogs, though, are the highest seed left at this point as the No. 3 national seed after OU upset No. 2 Georgia Tech in the Atlanta Regional and top-seeded UCLA was also eliminated during regionals.

The Bulldogs also avoided both Texas and Alabama this season while losing to Georgia Tech 14-4 in a midweek rivalry matchup. Georgia hasn't been beaten yet this postseason, though, while winning the SEC Tournament and getting through the NCAA Tournament unscathed so far.

Who the Sooners have faced is what makes them surviving this path seem like such a load, no matter how dominant they looked against ACC champion Georgia Tech and Big 12 champion Kansas to get here. OU struggled throughout the season and looked beaten down as it entered the NCAA Tournament, but then caught fire and made its run to the MCWS. The difference, though, might be that the Sooners didn't have another SEC foe between them and Omaha.

OU had back-to-back three-game weekend series against Texas and Alabama during the regular season. The Sooners went 1-5 combined in those two series and were outscored 38-20. The Longhorns swept OU in the Red River Rivalry while the Sooners managed to steal a 4-2 win in Game 2 against the Crimson Tide.

However, as daunting as the bracket seems, the Sooners still might be even scarier for those others involved. OU seems like the hottest team in college baseball right now, especially after dismantling Kansas in Super Regionals, and has nothing to lose.

Now, we find out if the Sooners really are this dominant all of a sudden or if the difference was not going up against the SEC.
