The Oklahoma Sooners have plans to get four-star linebacker Case Alexander back in Norman for an official visit soon, but it still might be too late.
SoonerScoop's Josh McCuistion reported this week that Alexander could make a decision on his commitment even before his scheduled visits in June to Oklahoma and Penn State. According to McCuistion, Alexander could announce his decision as early as Saturday. He's scheduled to visit Penn State on June 5, then Norman the next weekend.
OU legacy Case Alexander already leaning Penn State before Oklahoma visit
"I don’t feel like there’s anything I haven’t seen or need to see. It’s just gonna come down to what’s most important to me," Alexander told SoonerScoop's Parker Thune earlier this month, foreshadowing a decision could come soon and even before his visits.
The reason an early commitment would be a bad thing for the Sooners is that Penn State is ahead in the race right now, so an official visit to impress and gain more ground would be needed for OU to have a chance at getting Alexander. 247Sports currently has a Crystal Ball prediction for Alexander to commit to the Nittany Lions with a 100% confidence level.
Losing Alexander would still be a shock for the Sooners in the big picture. Not only is Alexander an in-state prospect from nearby Washington High School, but he's also an OU legacy that seemed destined to be a Sooner. His dad, Stephen, was a tight end for OU in 1994-97 before a 10-year NFL career. However, his older brother, Cooper, went to Iowa State to play tight end.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Alexander, listed at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, is the No. 22 linebacker in the 2027 class. He's also the No. 7 player in the state. Last season while helping Washington High School to a state runner-up finish in Class 2A-I, Alexander recorded 88 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also shined on offense, catching 36 passes for 679 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Alexander's other offers include Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, Utah and more. OU was just his second Power Four offer way back in Sept. 2024, which made it seem even more likely he'd end up playing for his home state Sooners like his dad.
Even if Alexander does choose Penn State, no matter how soon, the Sooners' 2027 class is still doing just fine with 21 total commits, including five-star linebacker Cooper Witten, the son of NFL great and OU tight ends coach Jason Witten.
