Seneca Driver and Bode Sparrow are already showing off the elite talent coming soon to Oklahoma

There are some absolute freaks heading to Norman soon.

The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t kicked off their 2026 season yet, but high school football is underway around the country. It was already known the Sooners had assembled a talented 2027 recruiting class based on recruiting rankings, but what some of these guys are doing on the field, even while playing different positions than when they’ll be wearing crimson and cream, is proving much more than stars ever could.

OU commits Seneca Driver and Bode Sparrow both made highlight-reel plays over the weekend while not even playing the position the Sooners are recruiting them at. Obviously they’re both best at their main positions, so it’s revealing of their talent when they’re still the best player on the field no matter where they’re at.

Rivals ranks Driver as the No. 1 tight end in the 2027 class as a five-star recruit, per the 247Sports Composite, but he started his senior campaign at Boyle County High School (KY) with a bang while lining up as a wildcat quarterback. It was simple: Driver’s coaches had the ball snapped directly to him in the backfield and let his talent do the rest.

Driver had touchdown runs of 72 and 56 yards as a wildcat quarterback in the first game of his senior campaign on Saturday. He used his vision and power to get through the front seven, then his speed made him uncatchable. He looked like the fastest player on the field while listed at a massive 6-foot-6 and 234 pounds. Those traits will obviously carry over as a tight end in the SEC.

Bode Sparrow has all the makings of a ball-hawking safety

It was already known Sparrow is good enough to play two positions at the FBS level as the No. 8 athlete in the 2027 class and a consensus four-star prospect. The Sooners want him at safety eventually, but he’s just as skilled as a wide receiver, which he showed off over the weekend. He used his 6-foot-2 frame to leap and pull down a touchdown pass near the sideline.

Sparrow’s length and ability as a receiver will make him an elite ball-hawking safety once at OU. He intercepted seven passes last year as a junior for Davis High School in Utah, where he’s the top player in the state. There’s also no doubt that he could step in at receiver if the Sooners are ever in a bind, like cornerback Jacobe Johnson did in 2024.

A lot goes into succeeding at the college level, but talent is the key ingredient, and it’s obvious Sparrow and Driver have enough of that to be great once they're Sooners.
