Sam Landry nearly perfect again in Oklahoma softball's win against Missouri

Oklahoma's Sam Landry gives up hits at the rate most pitchers do runs.

The No. 1 Sooners run-ruled Missouri 8-0 on Friday in the opening game of a weekend series in Columbia. The win kept OU undefeated at 28-0 and 7-0 in SEC play in the Sooners' first season in the conference.

Missouri dropped to 17-14 and is still looking for its first SEC win of the season, which seems far out of reach this weekend against the Sooners.

As things have been going in SEC play, the Sooners again dominated with Landry, a senior transfer from Louisiana, in the circle. She pitched all five innings in the win, giving up just one hit and a lone walk while striking out four.

Landry was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after her performances last week and has appeared in OU's last four SEC games after missing the South Carolina series. In four games and 16.1 innings against SEC competition, Landry has still yet to even give up a run.

On the season, Landry has a 1.23 ERA in 53.1 innings and is 8-0. She has struck out 73 batters compared to only seven walks.

Friday night against Missouri, as Landry shut down the Tigers' lineup, OU's lineup did enough to end the night early enough to go watch the men's basketball team play UConn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Sooners put up three runs in the opening frame, but then didn't score again until putting five across in the fifth. All eight runs came thanks to the long ball.

First, freshman Gabbie Garcia hit a rocket over the right-field wall to not only put the Sooners ahead 3-0, but also extend her hitting streak to 14 games.

In the fifth inning, Nelly McEnroe-Marinas hit a two-run homer before Ella Parker hit a three-run bomb to put the run-rule in play.

The Sooners and Mizzou will continue the series at 2 p.m. CT Saturday. The series will conclude at noon Sunday.
