The Oklahoma Sooners initially landed a four-star recruit, but now they have another five-star talent in their elite 2027 recruiting class.

Offensive lineman Kaeden Penny, who committed to the Sooners last week, was upgraded to five-star status while getting a massive boost in the updated 247Sports Composite rankings on Wednesday.

On top of getting that coveted fifth star, Penny also rocketed 18 spots from No. 45 to being the No. 27 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Five-star ratings, at least by 247Sports, are given to the top 32 recruits from a class as projected future first-round NFL Draft picks.

Penny also slid up one spot to be the second-best interior offensive lineman recruit in the class. He's also the No. 2 recruit in the state of Oklahoma behind only five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett from Fort Gibson. Hackett and Penny committed to OU on the same day within minutes of each other. However, according to 247Sports by itself, Penny is the top overall recruit in the state and No. 14 nationally.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, Penny plays for Oklahoma powerhouse Bixby High School, which Rivals ranks as the top high school football team in the country this season. He also had offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas State, LSU, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and more.

Penny's recruiting upgrade further solidified the Sooners' top 2027 recruiting class, which includes five total commits so far. It's still extremely early in the process, but OU is blowing other programs away so far in adding 2027 talent. The Sooners' No. 1 class has 120.31 points as of Thursday, with No. 2 Miami at 106.79. No. 3 Penn State is the only other program with multiple five-star commits already.
