R Mason Thomas still has Sooner Nation confused about his future

Thomas still hasn't announced a decision. We don't think, anyway.

The answer to whether or not Thomas will return to Oklahoma or not has been a wild ride.

Thomas just finished a breakout junior season at defensive end for the Sooners. He had three options at the start of the offseason: declare for the NFL Draft, play one more season at OU or enter the transfer portal and finish his college career somewhere else.

We can now erase at least one of those options since the Sooners' transfer window closed Wednesday night and Thomas' name hasn't popped up in the portal two days later. However, maybe not even Thomas himself knows which of the final two options he'll choose.

Thomas on Friday had a post on social media that got Sooner Nation even more confused about his future status. In the post, he thanked Sooner Nation and included a highlight video with two pictures from the movie Grease

That post came after fans were already confused about if Thomas was returning or not. The uncertainity started when 1Oklahoma, OU's NIL collective, posted on X that Thomas was returning. The post was then deleted but was still up long enough for numerous outlets to report that Thomas was returning to OU.

Thomas was then asked about his decision before the Sooners' 21-20 loss to Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl.

"I thought about it a little bit, but I'm still in deep thought about it," Thomas told media then. "Talking to my family about it. I don't know. I'm not even sure, like, when the last date to do whatever that is. But I'm still in deep thought about it."

Thomas ultimately has until Jan. 15 to make a decision because that's the final day for underclassmen to enter the transfer portal. However, considering that's still almost two weeks away, Brent Venables & Co. would probably like to know before then just in case they need to find more depth at defensive end to replace Thomas.

Sooner Nation would also like to know soon just for their sanity.

Maybe OU linebacker Jaren Kanak gave some positive insight, though. Or maybe Robert Spears-Jennings broke the unfortunate news. ...

Overall, Sooner Nation is still lost, though.
