QB Baker Mayfield
Arguably the greatest, if not the most controversial, quarterback in Oklahoma football history, Baker Mayfield actually walked on to the OU program in 2015 after transferring from Texas Tech following his freshman season. Originally it was thought under NCAA transfer rules Mayfield would have to sit out a year before he would be eligible to play for the Sooners. Because he was not on scholarship, however, at Texas Tech (also a walk-on there), that rule was subsequently waived.
During his three seasons at Oklahoma, Mayfield led Oklahoma to three consecutive Big 12 championships and two College Football Playoff appearances. His 2017 senior season (4.627 passing yards and 43 touchdowns) earned him college football most prestigious individual award, the Heisman Trophy.
Mayfield ended his Oklahoma career as No. 2 in program history with 12,292 passing yards and 119 touchdowns. He was second in FBS history with a passing efficiency rating of 175.4, less than a point behind former OU quarterback and fellow Heisman winner Sam Bradford. Mayfield was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, selected by the Cleveland Browns.
