No team in the country has been as dominant in the sport of softball as Oklahoma over the past decade. The Sooners just completed their record-setting fourth consecutive national championship, sweeping new SEC member Texas in the 2024 Women's College World Series championship series. Florida and Alabama were among the eight teams that composed this year's WCWS field.

Florida actually defeated OU 9-3 to stave off elimination and force an "if necessary" winner-take-all second game with the Sooners. That loss snapped Oklahoma's record 20-game winning streak in NCAA postseason games. The Sooners rebounded in the second contest with the Gators, overcoming a 5-2 deficit to win 6-5 in eight innings.

The best two teams in the SEC this season were conference champion Tennessee (22-7) and Florida overall (54-15). Historically, Oklahoma is tied with Arizona for second all-time with eight national championships in softball. The closest SEC teams are Florida and Texas A&M have two and Alabama one.
