The Oklahoma Sooners still haven’t narrowed down which quarterback they want from the 2026 class, but they are all in already on a 2027 quarterback.
Offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and the Sooners have been pushing hard and trying to make an early impression on 2027 quarterback Peyton “Pop” Houston.
Houston is a consensus four-star recruit out of Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. He’s listed right at 6-foot, although he will still grow just finishing his sophomore year, but Houston’s talent and video game numbers have still drawn interest from everywhere despite his size.
Sooners already pushing hard for 2027 QB
As a sophomore last season, Houston threw for a staggering 4,480 yards and 38 touchdowns compared to six interceptions in 12 games. He set the world on fire when he broke the national single-game high school passing yards record with 817 in a 77-76 overtime loss. The old record was set in 2015 at 787.
Those kind of numbers obviously get you noticed. He already has offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, SMU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and many more.
Houston is the No. 8 quarterback in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. And he’s only improved his stock during the offseason while bouncing around camps. Houston was the Quarterback MVP at the Rivals Camp in Dallas last month.
According to Parker Thune of Rivals, Arbuckle has told Houston multiple times that he’s the Sooners’ top priority in the 2027 class.
OU is also apparently a priority of Houston’s, because he’s already visited Norman six times on unofficial visits. Most recently on Thursday, Houston participated in OU’s elite camp. Arbuckle also visited Houston in Shreveport last month.
That relationship has paid off early so far, as Rivals’ FutureCast predicts Houston to end up at OU or Texas. But first, the Sooners need to lock down their 2026 quarterback.
