Patty Gasso tends to bring the best talent from all over the country to Oklahoma, but she also always assures the top talent from the Sooner State stays home.
OU’s 2028 recruiting class fittingly got started on Monday with a commitment from in-state prospect Braylyn “BP” Saenz from Moore High School. Saenz announced her decision with a post on X.

Saenz made the decision after going just down the road for a visit to Norman over the weekend during the OU football team’s 51-0 season-opening win over UTEP on Friday night. She was part of a stacked 2028 group that Gasso had in town that also included No. 1 pitcher Sophia Schlader, top outfielder Caelyn Campos and No. 22 overall player Gia Ryan. We knew someone from the bunch was going to commit once Gasso posted her usual “Go Boomer” via X on Monday.

According to Softball America, Saenz is the No. 41 overall recruit in the 2028 class as a four-star prospect. She’s also the 13th-best middle infielder in the country but can play anywhere in the infield.
Softball America has only two in-state recruits ranked ahead of Saenz in Broken Bow utility player Khloe Williams and Pryor outfielder Rhymee Rutherford. You can bet Gasso could also make both of those girls Sooners, too, especially since Williams has listed OU’s Ella Parker as her favorite player.

Gasso has inked the top recruit in Oklahoma every class since Softball America first started rating prospects in 2024. Those players have included outfielder Chaney Helton (2024 OF, Coweta), Allyssa Parker (2025 P, Pocola) and Juliana "Goose" Hutchens (2026 C, Wagoner).
For 2027, though, Tahlequah pitcher Zoie Griffin is considered the top player in the state but is pledged to Texas A&M. That would end Gasso’s in-state streak, but the Sooners are after prospects from out of state ranked much higher nationally. That No. 1 designation from the 2027 class also initially belonged to Hutchens before she reclassified to 2026 to join the Sooners this season. Fellow OU commit Keegan Baker, a pitcher from Edmond, was the top 2026 in-state player before Hutchens jumped her.
Gasso takes full advantage of not only being the biggest brand in college softball to draw attention from national recruits, but also doesn’t let local talent get overlooked while being in the heart of a softball state that she has helped build. This has been the perfect balance to assemble elite rosters, and Saenz's recent decision shows nothing is changing anytime soon.
