They barely broke a sweat here. Over the weekend, Oklahoma softball put on a show in the Norman Regional, posting a sweep that's only going to have Sooners fans holding out even more hope that a push for the national title can come soon enough.

The national dominance of SEC softball is showing up in a major way in postseason play

If you ask Patta Gasso, though, she wasn't surprised at all with what Oklahoma was able to get done against Binghamton, Kansas, and Michigan. Things ended with an 8-1 win over the Wolverines, wrapping up what truly was a head-turning stretch. Did you notice that the players didn't even seem all that hyped up about things? There was a good reason for that:

"It's special. It's pretty amazing, too," Gasso said in her postgame presser. "I don't know, maybe not amazing, but the expectations of this program is, thank you, Michigan. And we're moving on without any kind of celebration. They're almost kind of embarrassed to celebrate. I don't know how to explain it, but it's our expectation, so we just keep moving on. I thought we played really well this weekend. Pitchers were amazing. I think maybe could be wrong, but something like six hits over three games, really great job. I thought everybody played well. I thought we started to run out of gas a little bit the end of this game, but for the most part, everything was right on key."

Oklahoma dominated the Norman Regional and now Mississippi State is up next

Tell us how you really feel, Patty. The fact of the matter here is that the Sooners are playing at a fantastic level and it's clear this group is motivated to silence the haters too. We hate to bring it up, but the loss to Georgia in the SEC Tournament opened up plenty of eyes, but not in a good way at all.

The haters were out in full force to claim the Sooners were overrated, while Gasso's ruthless message to her locker room, which she walked back a bit, also raised loads of eyebrows. A fire was lit under the Sooners as a whole and the group outscoring their opponents 28-1 in recent games was beyond telling.

With all of that said, the MSU Bulldogs are next up on the schedule, with a Super Regionals dance coming on May 22 at Love's Field. Game 2 of that best-of-three series is coming on Saturday, May 23 and if a Game 3 is needed, we'll see you on May 2

Gasso and Co. are hoping things can get wrapped up pretty dang quickly against their conference foes, as another statement will need to be made. It will be the first time this season that the Sooners will take on the Bulldogs. Luckily for Oklahoma fans, they know the pitching has been fantastic, with a collective 0.53 ERA being posted in the latest three wins.

That momentum will be carried over to take on Mississippi State, as the Sooners are just two wins away from getting back to the Women's College World Series. Should those two wins get posted, it will mark the 10th straight season OU is able to get that job done. Soon enough, we'll find out if this group will be able to make even more history.
