Oklahoma doesn't lose game svery often when it comes to softball, the coaches are used to it, the players aren't used to it, and the fans certainly aren't used to it. Head coach Patty Gasso has built a culture in Norman and it is a winning one, so when a loss does happen, very rarely does it happen twice in a row.
After a surprising 11-9 loss to Mississippi State in the first game of the Super Regional Round for the first time since 2015, the players and fans knew something needed to change. Struggles that have been known and seen all season long reared their ugly head at the worst time, but the panic button was never even a thought.
After the game, Gasso kept things short and sweet, knowing her team didn't need a long speech on what needed to be fixed. Even former Oklahoma players came forward, saying they know this team is ready to get the job done in Game 2.
Former Oklahoma star Kinzie Hansen even shared one of her former quotes from another time the Sooners suffered a big loss, and it perfectly predicted what Game 2 against Mississippi State would look like. The Sooners were able to take down the Bulldogs in a huge 7-1 win to force Game 3.
"The Sooners play best after we get punched in the mouth," Hansen said. "That's what I have learned this season."
Coach was actually not too happy ab me saying this but now it’s like OU softball motto… heck yeah🤣🤣 https://t.co/kD6L6NmjSG

Oklahoma is not a team that loses two games in a row very often
Only once this season did Oklahoma lose back-to-back games, but it wasn't against the same team. The Sooners dropped the final game in the Red River Rivalry series to Texas and then dropped a mid-week matchup game against in-state rival Oklahoma State. It was one of the biggest struggles of the season for the Sooners, but also a big lesson.
The Sooners knew they couldn't afford to play the way they had been, and while they suffered a few more losses in the rest of the regular season and even the SEC Tournament, Gasso's team is one that learns from mistakes of a loss and makes sure not to allow it to carry into the next.
Oklahoma proved that against Mississippi State in Game 2 of the Super Regional. This team came out with what looked like a chip on their shoulder, starting quickly offensively with a seven-run third inning, and the pitching was something Sooners fans have been begging for.
Starting pitcher Audrey Lowry got into some trouble in the sixth inning, but a strong finish, only allowing one run, allowed the Sooners to close the door on the Bulldogs and force a Game 3 in Norman with a trip to the Women's College World Series on the line.
