The start was over before it really even began for the Oklahoma Sooners.

The No. 2 overall seed Sooners run-ruled Boston University 8-0 in five innings to start things off in the NCAA Softball Championship in Game 2 of the Norman Regional on Friday at Love's Field. Cal narrowly got past Omaha 1-0 in the first game of the day, so the two winners will meet at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.

Oklahoma thumps Boston U in Game 2 of Norman Regional

OU is just getting warmed up in its quest for an unprecedented fifth national championship in a row with almost an entirely new roster. It didn't seem like much has changed in the 2025 Sooners' first NCAA Softball Championship outing, though.

The Sooners exploded for five runs in the second inning to quickly show things would be over early. They then put across two more in the third and another in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.

Nelly McEnroe-Marinas and Hannah Coor both drove in two runs apiece. Chaney Helton also hit a home run for the Sooners' only extra-base hit of the game for a team that usually lives off the long ball.

In the circle, the duo of ace Sam Landry and Kierston Deal combined to shut down Boston U in the three-hit shutout.

Landry started and earned the win to get her 20th W of the season at 20-4. She gave up just two hits and a walk while striking out four in three inning. Deal was just as dominant in the last two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

A victory Saturday afternoon would put the Sooners in the driver's seat and one win away on Sunday from advancing to their ninth straight Super Regional, which they'll also host at Love's Field.
