The Oklahoma Sooners will soon know if they get the quarterback they want for their future.

Hayes Fawcett of Rivals reported on Thursday that 2027 QB Peyton Houston has set a commitment date for Monday, Sept. 15, with the announcement scheduled for 9:30 a.m. CT.

Peyton Houston sets commitment date

Houston has been OU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle’s top target from the 2027 class. Arbuckle has already proven once in his short time in Norman that he’ll do whatever it takes to get the QB he wants to be a Sooner.

The Sooners already had a 2026 QB committed in Jaden O’Neal when Arbuckle was hired as OU’s offensive coordinator in December. But Arbuckle soon set his sights on rising prospect Bowe Bentley, who was barely on anyone’s radar at the time.

O’Neal eventually flipped his commitment to Florida State, and Arbuckle beat out LSU to secure Bentley, who’s now a consensus four-star prospect.

Houston is also a consensus four-star recruit, but could earn a fifth star by the time it’s all settled. According to the 247Sports Composite, Houston is the No. 11 QB in the 2027 class and No. 6 prospect in the state of Louisiana out of Evangel Christian Academy.

Last season as a sophomore, Houston threw for a ridiculous 4,480 yards and 38 TDs. He also broke the national high school record for passing yards in a single game with 817 (!!!).

Houston’s decision comes at an ideal time for the Sooners. He’ll be at OU on Saturday when the Sooners host Michigan for a huge top-20 matchup between two blue bloods. That’s just nine days before he announces his commitment. But Houston is a frequent visitor to Norman. Saturday will be his seventh known unofficial visit to OU.

Rivals currently lists Lincoln Riley’s USC as the favorite to land Houston, but OU is also definitely near the top of his list, even though Houston hasn’t announced finalists yet. Houston’s other offers include Texas, Clemson, LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and a lengthy list of others.
