The early signing period for the 2026 recruiting class opens on Wednesday morning, but the Oklahoma Sooners are already up to double-digit commits for their 2027 group.

Running back Keldrid Ben on Monday announced via social media that he committed to the Sooners’ 2027 class to become their 10th commit so far in the No. 1 class and seventh on the offensive side of the ball.

The Sooners are on an extremely early jump on building their 2027 class, and were also ahead of the curve in noticing and offering Ben. OU hopes it was the first to discover a hidden gem that eventually becomes a hot commodity that the Sooners were able to claim early.

Recruiting ratings will eventually be updated to include Ben, but as of now, he’s unrated and unranked by every major recruiting outlet. OU was just his third offer after UTSA and McNeese State.

This past season as a junior at Montgomery High School in Texas, Ben rushed for 1,560 yards and 15 touchdowns on 152 carries while averaging a whopping 10.3 yards an attempt. He’s also a solid receiver out of the backfield.

According to his X bio, Ben runs a speedy 4.5-second 40-yard dash while being listed at 5-foot-10 and 208 pounds. All those impressive numbers were enough to get the Sooners’ attention even before recruiting services.

The Sooners offered Ben just six days before his commitment. He then visited Norman this past weekend to witness the Sooners beat LSU and punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff, then pledged quickly to be a Sooner.

Ben was the second 2027 running back to commit to DeMarco Murray and the Sooners after three-star Jaxsen Stokes from California.

It’s still early in the cycle, but the Sooners’ 10-player 2027 class so far already ranks No. 1 in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. The group will get even more of a boost after Ben gets his first rating.
