Oklahoma softball managed to outdo its previous performance as the Sooners shut out the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, a D2 school, 35-0 in a fall scrimmage on Wednesday. The fall home game attendance record was also broken as 2,837 fans flocked to Love’s Field to watch the Sooners hold the Eagles scoreless for 10 innings.
Sooners shut out Oklahoma Christian with 35-0 victory
Senior RHP Sydney Berzon started as the pitcher for the first two innings, where the offense kicked off in the second when senior second baseman Ailana Agbayani scored the first run, followed by sophomore Tia Milloy and junior right fielder Ella Parker bringing the total to 5-0.
While sophomore LHP Audrey Lowry entered the circle in innings three and four, the Sooners started to rack up runs in double digits. Freshman catcher Kendall Wells extended her streak of dingers with her third in three games, along with seven RBIs from Milloy, freshman Lexi McDaniel, sophomore Gabbie Garcia and Ella Parker. The fourth inning was even more explosive as Pickering, sophomore Chaney Helton and Milloy each whacked three bombs.
The fifth inning was the closest the Eagles came to scoring, but freshman RHP Berkley Zache tossed a strikeout that prevented the loaded bases from touching home. The Sooners then scored nine runs that included a three-run homer shot by sophomore third baseman Nelly McEnroe-Marinas, who repeated with a double-run bomb in the sixth.
The Sooners continued to overwhelm OCU defensively and offensively for the rest of the game, with senior LHP Kierston Deal dealing three strikeouts on the mound and Wells closing out the offense with her second homer of the night. Sophomore RHP Miali Guachino delivered three strikeouts in the 10th inning that capped a wildly far margin of victory for Patty Gasso’s squad.
The pitching staff of five gave up only two hits, while Guachino had the most batters struck out with five. Eight Sooners accounted for 10 home runs, and 11 batted 27 hits throughout the contest.
