The peak of talking about the next college football season is here.

The Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday announced who will be doing the talking for them at the upcoming SEC Media Days. OU will send quarterback John Mateer, defensive end R Mason Thomas and safety Robert Spears-Jennings to Atlanta, Georgia, for the event. As usual, head coach Brent Venables will also represent the Sooners and talk ball.

SEC Media Days will be July 14-17 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Sooners will appear on Day 3 of the event on Wednesday, July 16. Venables will take the podium at 1:45 p.m. CT that day, followed by Mateer, Spears-Jennings and Thomas. Alabama, Florida and Mississippi State are also scheduled for that day.

Last year, SEC Media Days was hosted in Dallas for the Sooners and Texas' debut. OU sent quarterback Jackson Arnold, safety Billy Bowman Jr. and linebacker Danny Stutsman then, and hopefully that's not a bad omen. None are still with the program. Bowman and Stutsman finished their careers and are now in the NFL.

Arnold transferred to fellow SEC program Auburn at the end of last season. Arnold will be back at the event this year, but this time representing the Tigers. Auburn is scheduled to appear on Tuesday, the day before OU.

Mateer is set to replace Arnold as OU's quarterback after transferring from Washington State as the top prospect in the portal this past offseason. Mateer followed his offensive coordinator, Ben Arbuckle, from Washington State to Norman.

Spears-Jennings started the final 11 games of the season last year for the Sooners, tallying 66 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, one pass breakup, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Thomas enters the 2025 season as a top NFL Draft prospect. Last season, he also started 11 games and was named Second-Team All-SEC.
