NFL scouts are already buzzing about a player on the Oklahoma Sooners' roster.
OU general manager Jim Nagy recently gave some insight on what NFL scouts are already saying about OU defensive end R Mason Thomas. A post from PFF about some of Mason's 2024 stats prompted the comment from Nagy.
"NFL scouting community has been blowing me up all spring/summer about R Mason," Nagy wrote in a post on X. "NFL Draft community, here's some inside info...the league thinks he's a Top-100 guy. Do whatever you want with that insider info."

NFL scouts are already buzzing about R Mason Thomas
If anyone knows what NFL scouts are thinking, it's Nagy. He has deep connections within that world after serving as Executive Director of the Senior Bowl from 2018 until he got the new job at OU earlier this year. He was also a scout himself and was part of NFL front offices for 18 years.
Nagy isn't the only one deeming Mason a top NFL Draft prospect before the 2025 college football season even kicks off, though, so it must not just be a biased observation. In April, just after the 2025 NFL Draft concluded, CBS Sports already predicted Mason to be a first-round pick in its first mock draft for the 2026 class. The outlet projected Mason to go No. 19 overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Considering a national outlet already labeled Mason as a potential first-round candidate, Nagy labeling him a top-100 prospect really isn't that bold of a statement. The top 100 would put Mason off the board within the first four rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft. However, it seems Mason, especially with a solid senior season, will go before Day 3.
Mason tallied 23 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks and forced two fumbles last season as a junior while starting 11 games. He debated entering the NFL Draft last year, but ultimately decided to return to OU for his senior campaign.
