The torture appeared to be over...

It seemed like the Oklahoma men's basketball team's torturous SEC losing streak was finally over, but like a cockroach in what's the apocalypse of Porter Moser's OU coaching career, it's still going.

The Sooners on Saturday in Columbia lost to Missouri 88-87 in overtime thanks to a buzzer-beating 3-pointer as time expired to extend OU's losing streak to six games, which is the longest skid during the five-season Moser era that's been disappointing overall. And it could keep growing.

The loss dropped the Sooners to 11-9 overall and 1-6 in SEC play as they're at the bottom of the conference, while Mizzou improved to 14-6 and 4-3.

Sooners fall to Missouri with overtime buzzer-beater

I've already written that OU fans need to be put out of their misery of having Moser lead their basketball team, yet rooting for the Sooners in basketball managed to somehow become even more heartbreaking on Saturday. At least for those fans still caring at all.

When the Sooners lost their fifth game in a row on Tuesday to South Carolina, even though the Gamecocks were considered one of the worst teams in the SEC, fans realized early there was no hope in OU's losing streak ending that night after the Sooners started the game down 11-0. Against Mizzou, though, there was not only hope, but even relief already that the streak was over.

After a close game throughout, the Sooners led 81-78 with 5.6 seconds left and had the length of the court to stop Mizzou from scoring a 3-pointer and even had the option to foul to send the Tigers to the free-throw line and force them to settle for two. Instead, Moser made the foolish decision to let things play out as T.O. Barrett dribbled across midcourt before passing it to Trent Pierce, who buried a shot from the logo to send the game to OT.

But even then, there was still hope the losing streak could end that day.

Less than five minutes of action later, the Sooners again held a narrow lead, up 87-85 after Xzayvier Brown made a jumper with 4.8 seconds left to put his team a stop away from victory. This time, it was Mark Mitchell who dribbled the entire length of the court before pulling up at the arc and draining a 3 at the buzzer to keep the Sooners' streak going.

Thanks to a changing of the guard in leadership with OU hiring Roger Denny as its new athletic director, fans will be stuck with Moser longer than anyone wants. There will be no midseason firing to put fans out of their misery soon no matter how long this streak continues and how awful the future losses are. For now, this if life as a fan of OU men's basketball, and somehow, Moser keeps finding new ways to torture.
