Oklahoma men's basketball coach Porter Moser had to get a player committed to the Sooners twice in the same offseason.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported Wednesday that forward Tae Davis is withdrawing from the 2025 NBA Draft after testing the waters. Davis just transferred to OU from Notre Dame during the offseason and hasn't played a game with the Sooners yet.

Notre Dame transfer Tae Davis withdrawing from NBA Draft

Davis was the Sooners' first transfer portal addition of the year for Moser and new assistant general manager Trae Young, whose day job is as a four-time NBA All-Star. Davis was a huge get as OU was in desperate need for big men.

Although the Sooners have more big bodies coming for next season, keeping Davis for depth and maybe even for the starting lineup was massive. That's especially true considering how late in the process it is, so the Sooners wouldn't have been able to secure a player of the same caliber.

Davis, listed at 6-foot-9, averaged 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds while starting every game last season for Notre Dame as a junior.

In all, the Sooners have added four players from the transfer portal this offseason, including Davis, Alabama forward Derrion Reid, Miami point guard Nigel Pack and St. Joe's point guard Xzayvier Brown.

Davis and Reid, a former five-star recruit at 6-foot-8, helped the Sooners bolster up in the paint after struggling down low in their first season in the SEC. OU will also add incoming freshmen Kai Rogers (6-foot-10), Andreas Holst (6-foot-11) and Alec Blair (6-foot-6).

Those newcomers will join other big men Jeff Nwankwo, Mo Wague and Kuol Atak.

While Davis opted not to enter the NBA Draft, prospects were too good for point guard Jeremiah Fears, even as an 18-year-old freshman. Fears has emerged as a lock to be a top-10 pick in the NBA Draft after just one season at OU.
