It's looking more real that the Oklahoma Sooners could lose their longtime 2026 quarterback commit.
Jaden O'Neal posted on Sunday a picture that teased a possible flip after visiting the Arizona Wildcats over the weekend. O'Neal's longtime trainer and mentor, Ortege Jenkins, played quarterback for Arizona in 1997-2000 and was inducted into the Wildcats' Ring of Honor in 2022. O'Neal's picture was of him and Jenkins with the caption, "Will the crown be passed down?"
Jaden O'Neal teases new commitment after visit to Arizona
There's been drama surrounding O'Neal's commitment to the Sooners that just keeps building. He committed to the Sooners last summer and seemed to be a lock untilOU offered another 2026 quarterback, Bowe Bentley, in January shortly after Ben Arbuckle took over as offensive coordinator.Bentley has since rocketed up recruiting rankings and has narrowed his choices down to OU and LSU.
Shortly after OU offered Bentley, O'Neal announced a new offer from Georgia after not posting anything public about another school since his pledge to the Sooners. He then visited Georgia just days after Bentley was in Norman. However, the Bulldogs have since locked in a top QB commit so backed off both of OU's targets.
There have also been plenty of reasons to believe O'Neal will still end up at OU. He recently moved from California to Oklahoma to play his senior season at nearby Mustang High School and immediately became the No. 1 player in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite. OU's staff has also continued to push hard for O'Neal and visited his home just a few weeks ago.
O'Neal has still kept his options open, though. He also has an official visit to Florida State scheduled for June 15 after visiting Arizona this past weekend. O'Neal will be in Norman on June 20 during OU's ChampU recruiting weekend.
Bentley's official visit to OU is on Friday and he just visited LSU, so his decision should be known soon. That could also be the domino to fall for O'Neal's next move. However, the Sooners also have to avoid the worst-case scenario of losing both quarterbacks and having to start over in the midst of official visit season.
